So here is how I did NOT lose weight while breastfeeding. I just wasnt one of those lucky moms. I was the mom that ate whatever I want, whenever I want while I was breastfeeding because I felt I was never full and always hungry. I was feeding Freya for 10-12x a day and the weight did not budge. I gained about 10kg during pregnancy and dropped 4 kg once I left the hospital with the baby. 1 month postpartum I dropped another 2 kg and by 6 months postpartum I was still 3 kg above pre-pregnancy weight. Why do We Lose Muscle Mass during Pregnancy even When We are Working Out ?

When building muscles we need certain variables in training such as time under tension, progressive overload, and volume which means more sets and sometimes reps.

Time under tension means – the amount of time a muscle is held under tension or strain during an exericse set. For example; having to hold a weight or your body weight while in a squat position or press position at every rep which sometimes requires mama to hold your breath a little longer than usual.

Progressive overload means: Increasing the resistance of the weight overtime safely but in a challenging way. And sometimes pregnant mamas cannot do that without causing more pressure on the bump or the baby.

Lastly, to gain muscles, we don’t just need more weights, but we also need volume. I Ate Too Much!

This shift was absolutely huge for me: life is incredibly short, and it was time to stop constantly engaging in negative self-talk when all I did was being human, so what? I went out and I ate a little more food than usual. I am only human, and I very well enjoyed my time with my friends and all the yummy food I ate.
Life is unpredictable. And we deserve to live and thrive and feel worthy in the body we are given. Our bodies are more than just the way it looks. What about the value that gives us to life to move and to breathe.

Embarking on a fat-loss journey can feel daunting and overwhelming with all the information that is given to you but think of it as a lifestyle change and you are just trying to modify what you have been eating, work out a little more, get a certified trainer to coach you in your weight lifting journey, make sure you are getting enough sleep and try to minimize daily stresses with meditation or crystals or whatever tools you resonate with.

And while there are many ways to lose weight – (fill in the blanks of all the fad diets you have tried or have yet to try) come to mind. There is no one diet in the world that will give you any guarantee in weight loss or fat loss. But there is no harm in trying. If you are in a caloric deficit, all diets will work.

Fat-loss is science: burning more calories than you take in. This calories-in, calories-out calculation may seem simplistic, but it does get a little more complicated when you realize that not everyone’s bodies burn calories the same. Continue reading Calories
